We Can All Make A Comeback
For over 150 years biologists thought the New Zealand Storm Petrel was extinct, but now they have declared that in fact, it is not. The bird was seen by many bird watchers for many years, but biologist thought that the birds they were seeing were just a rare coloration of a more common species. Now, after DNA samples from stuffed Storm Petrels in museums, biologists now say the bird is actually not extinct and has been surviving all along without us knowing. A classic example of how much we really don't know.
I like this story because we all can make a comeback, even if the judging world around us does not see it. Many of the bird watchers knew that the Petrel might still be alive, but the biologists, the "real scientists", thought otherwise. Don't wait for the world's approval to make your own comeback. Like the Petrel, you are free to live no matter what.
