10 Million Lies

Someone just tweeted about this new study on how there are possibly 10 million unnecessary prescriptions for antibiotics (for kids) a year! This means 10 million lies about whether you need a certain medication or not. Of course Fox news doesn't seem so concerned, but what this really means is that main stream doctors today need to be questioned. I mean they are giving medications to children who don't even need them! Medication today needs to be handled with caution. They contain all sorts of side affects and can wipe out other systems in the body.  Imagine a small child having to take something as strong as antibiotics and not even needing them. It's wrong!
So anyway, here is the link (just ignore the commercial in the beginning): http://video.foxnews.com/v/1266882537001/10-million-unnecessary-prescriptions-for-kids-a-year/?playlist_id=86892

The video reports that ear infections are very common to be treated with antibiotics, but they actually don't work. This totally pisses me off because I had an awful ear infection and was given antibiotics for it and ended up having a terrible reaction to them. Were they unnecessary? All that money and no sleep? Ugh!
So why would doctors prescribe unnecessary antibiotics to children? Why would they do this?! Is it the money? Because I do know that antibiotics can get pricey if you don't have insurance to cover them. Mothers and fathers would do anything to keep their children healthy, and so if a doctor says that they need antibiotics, of course they are going to go and get them.

So, question your doctor. Especially if your gut tells you that you don't need a certain medication. We need to shift the power from the doctor to the patient.  Don't just believe everything that they tell you because they are also funded through huge medication distributors. I'm not saying doctors are bad, because they are most certainly not, but always remember to ask why all the time. And to remember that you are the one who is paying, you should have the power and respect.
